One Bet 💖 is a challenge I made with Vicky September last year. At the time of making the bet i never actually thought I would see it through... On 31st may 2025 I will attempt. 15,138 ft elevation gain. 112.6 km in distance over Clwydian mountain range. 90lb fridge/freezer on back... 36 hrs time limit. The bet was made whilst I was lying in hospital not long woken from surgery September last year. I just had a total new hip replacement... The surgeon was telling me I had to slow down and i would cause further damage to other parts of body if it did not listen! Vicky was sat in corner of room laughing whist telling the surgeon 'You might as well talk to a brick wall!' She reminded him of why I was lying there in the first place (I completed the Llangollen rd in 2018. I fractured my angle and lacerated my Achilles in the first mile... I then stupidly completed the remaining 34 miles on the injuries! This resulted in 4 x days in hospital and 2 x operations.. since then my body mechanics have been out of sync hence my worn hip / total new hip required...) !!! she told him 'Knowing this stupid idiot he will try and complete it next time with a fridge on his back! I replied 'I will do it twice with a fridge freezer on my back!!!' Smiling and laughing whist shaking her head. she said 'you've got yourself a bet Mr Jones!!!'. 💖 I never thought I would actually be able to do after the operation but, Vicky knew I could do it. She was a gift, a force of nature! She had the incredible ability to give people the confidence to push themselves to new levels- being comfortable being uncomfortable. Vicky mantra/ quote was always -'You are the only you...own it, rock it, feel it, embrace it, love it, and be it! BE YOU!' As a family, we laughed and joked about 'one bet' whist sat in the kitchen November last year. The children laughing and egging me on to do it... Vicky said, you know you can do it if you really put your mind in that place... After we lost Vicky the children brought 'one bet' back up in conversation late January. They asked would I do it? The was answer 'Yes, I promise '. Vicky knew I could do it, so that's what we setout to do and share Vicky's mantra along the way Training started not long after . It has been brutal. Without doubt the hardest training I have ever done mentally and physically. The mountains have become my church. Vicky is beautiful, inside and out. She is also loving, caring, loyal, generous, committed, positive and brave. Would light up every room she was in, she dazzled and captivated everyone who saw her. She was able to lift others. Always putting everyone else first, sometimes too much. Doing anything for anyone, even if she didn’t really know them. I feel so lucky, to have met and spent 20 years with the most incredible , beautiful, extortionary women. Some people will go an entire lifetime and not achieve a few percentages of the memories and love she created for us all. She is truly special. Vicky was a gift. A very special gift.
